Do you manage all of your employees the same way or do you consciously approach each one differently?
How many times have any of your bosses asked how you would like to be managed? Wouldn’t you work just a little bit harder if they treated you the way you wanted to be treated?
Ask your employees two simple questions—how they want and don’t want to be managed. After asking, jot both ways down on a 3 x 5 card. Carry the card with you until you know them by heart. Read the card before interacting with them.
Just nitpick an employee who loves his independence and you’ll soon understand the value of doing this—if he’s still working for you.
So simple, so effective, yet so few employees are asked.
