What do you call it when your employees have three bosses all wanting something done immediately? A normal day?
Quite simply, the more people your employees have to answer to, the greater the odds of their being bombarded with urgent tasks. The more urgent tasks thrown at them by more than one manager, the less chance they will have of working on anything remotely important.
The ideal number of people to report to: One.
