Tip 195. The best facilitator for a meeting is someone other than the boss.

Isn’t it kind of intimidating when your boss runs a meeting? You don’t always feel like jumping right in and telling her that she is wrong when she asks your opinion about something, do you?

When a trained facilitator runs the show, meetings begin and end on time, there’s more closure, more accountability, and more follow-up.

Bosses don’t always possess the skills needed to facilitate. In fact, a lot of times they really don’t possess the skills at all. Using someone else in the group frees them up to participate and contribute—something the facilitator shouldn’t be doing.

Hey! All you bosses out there. Please, take a seat and let someone else run the show—or at least the meeting for a change.

Notice what happens to the number of meetings that are called when this occurs.
