Stand up.

Do you get more work done sitting or standing up? Then why are you still sitting down?

If your attention span is like many workers, only 7 minutes long, after sitting for a while, take a break, and stand up and work. When you change your body position and stand, your body chemistry will change and enable you to refocus and be more productive.

A few examples of when you can stand and work:

· Eliminate the chairs in a meeting room and notice how quickly the meeting concludes. More importantly, notice how fewer meetings occur in the future.

· Stand when you are on the phone on a sales call. Compare someone’s voice when they are sitting, versus when they are standing—energized, alive, and vibrant. More sales. Ka-ching!

· Stand when you go through your Inbox and decrease the time it takes to empty it by 50%!

· Bad back people. You more than anyone know the difference between sitting and being in pain, and standing and being sane.

Stand up!

The photo is one of my client’s attempt at engineering his very own standing desk. I suggested he buy a real standing desk which he did. Sometimes consulting is so easy…if you are just willing to stand up to the problem.

From a recent article published by the Washington Post states that:

The study [by Texas A&M University’s Health Science Center School of Public Health], which monitored 167 employees in a Texan call center over a six-month period, found that employees using stand-capable desks were more productive than their colleagues in standard, seated desks. And the productivity of the standing-desk workers continued to increase over their seated colleagues steadily over time. In the first month, the stand-capable group had 23 percent more successful calls than their seated colleagues, and by the sixth month, they had 53 percent more successful calls.

Because of this, people are now investing in desks that seamlessly transition from sitting to standing position — as they offer flexibility, mobility, and a great way to increase efficiency.

A team at Reviews.com recently spent weeks testing 67 of the most popular standing desk models to find which ones lead in functionality and were most suitable for a variety of budgets, design aesthetics, and any workspace needs.
